Shape-up, line-up, edge-up — the same thing
One service, three regional names. On the East Coast it is a shape-up; nationally people say line-up; in the South it is an edge-up. Ask for any of the three here and you will get the same thing: the hairline squared and sharpened at the forehead, the temples and the sideburns, with nothing taken off the length.
What $15 gets you
$15.
The edges only. No guard work on the sides, no length off the top. It is the cheapest thing on our price list along with the beard trim, and it exists so you are not paying $30 for a full haircut when what has actually gone soft is a line.
Walk in during any hour we are open — Monday–Saturday 9:00 AM–7:00 PM, Sunday 10:00 AM–3:00 PM — or call (516) 328-0724.
Shape-up on its own, or with a cut
On its own — $15. Roughly halfway between haircuts. A fade holds its gradient longer than its hairline holds its edge, so one shape-up in the middle of a three-week cycle buys you most of another week looking fresh.
With a haircut — included in the $30. A men's haircut is finished with the hairline squared; you do not pay $15 on top of it. The standalone price is for coming in between cuts.
A shape-up is not a beard line-up
This is the one that causes confusion at the counter. A shape-up at $15 is your hairline — forehead, temples, sideburns. Lining the beard — cheek line, neck line, moustache — is part of the beard trim — $15.
If you want both in one sitting, say "shape-up and a beard trim" and it is $15 plus $15.
Shape-up questions
How much is a shape-up? $15 on its own. It is included when you get a haircut at $30.
Do I need an appointment for one? No. Walk in during opening hours — Monday–Saturday 9:00 AM–7:00 PM, Sunday 10:00 AM–3:00 PM. Call (516) 328-0724 if you want a specific time.
Will a shape-up make my hairline recede? Squaring a hairline does not change where it grows from. What it does is take the line back slightly each time if you keep asking for it squarer, so tell the barber to follow your natural line rather than straighten it if you are worried about that.
Is a shape-up the same as a line-up or an edge-up? Yes — three regional names for the same service. A beard line-up is different and belongs to the beard trim.
