What a fade costs here

$30 — the same as any men's haircut. A fade is not a different service, it is how the haircut is cut. Skin or taper, drop or burst, low, mid or high: the price does not move, and neither does it move because your hair is thicker or the blend takes longer.

Walk in during any hour we are open — Monday–Saturday 9:00 AM–7:00 PM, Sunday 10:00 AM–3:00 PM — or call (516) 328-0724.

Which fade should you ask for?

A fade is a gradient: short at the bottom, longer as it climbs. Two decisions make it — how short does it start and how high does it climb. Everything below is a different answer to those two questions.

Close up of a skin fade, the blend running down to the skin

Skin fade / bald fade

Starts at bare skin. The clipper comes off and a foil shaver or a straight razor takes the bottom of the gradient down to nothing. Sharpest-looking fade there is and the shortest-lived — the skin section is visibly growing back inside a week. Ask for "skin fade" or "bald fade"; they are the same cut.

A taper with a tightly shaped beard

Taper fade — the one that doesn't go to skin

This is the distinction most people get wrong. A taper leaves visible length at the sideburn and the neckline and blends it shorter; a fade takes it to skin. If you want your hair to look tidy at work without a bare strip above your ear, a taper is what you are asking for.

Low, mid and high

Low, mid and high describe where the gradient starts climbing, not how short it is. A low fade starts just above the ear and stays close to the hairline. A mid fade starts around the temple. A high fade starts at or above the corner of the head and leaves a hard contrast with the top. Higher means more scalp on show and a shorter interval between cuts.

Drop fade

The gradient drops behind the ear instead of running level around the head, following the curve of the skull. It reads softer from the side and it sits well under curl and wave.

A mullet with a burst fade curving around the ear

Burst fade

A semicircle of fade around the ear only, with the back left long. It is the fade for anyone who wants short sides without losing the length at the back.

How often to come back

A skin fade looks like the day you got it for roughly a week and acceptable for two. A taper carries three to four weeks because there is no bare skin to grow back unevenly. A high fade needs redoing sooner than a low one at the same length, because there is more gradient on show.

If you like the fade but not the frequency, a shape up — $15 between cuts buys you a week or two on the hairline for a third of the price of a full cut.

Fade questions

What is the difference between a fade and a taper? A fade goes to skin. A taper leaves length at the sideburn and neckline and blends it down. Every other name — low, mid, high, drop, burst — describes where the gradient sits, not how short it starts.

How much is a fade? $30, the same as a men's haircut, whichever fade you ask for. A skin fade does not cost more than a taper here.

How often do I need it redone? About a week before a skin fade stops looking fresh, three to four for a taper. A $15 shape-up stretches either of them.

Do you cut fades on walk-ins, or do I need to book? Walk in any hour we are open. Call (516) 328-0724 if you want a set time.
